What is canine osteoarthritis?
Canine osteoarthritis is a chronic joint disease that sees progressive inflammation of the joints as the cartilage deteriorates. This can be caused by age, continuous stress, illness, and injury, and as the cartilage breaks down, it results in decreased motion, pain, and bone spurs.
How can CBD oil help canine osteoarthritis?
CBD oil is a known anti-inflammatory, and research from the Baylor College of Medicine found that those dogs taking higher doses over a four-week period saw significant improvement in their mobility. Alongside the increased movement, these dogs also had a greater quality of life, with researchers noticing they had reduced pain and seemed happier.
Those benefits did not end when the experiment stopped. A follow-up examination two weeks later found that those dogs who were given higher CBD doses were still showing signs of improvement compared to the placebo groups.
Additional studies further support the research from the Baylor College of Medicine. One such study was by Cornell University, which examined how traditional CBD oil and CBD liposomal formulation helped treat the signs of osteoarthritis in dogs.
